Delta Air Lines offers Global Upgrade Certificates (GUCs) as a benefit to its SkyMiles Medallion members, specifically those who achieve Diamond Medallion status. These certificates provide an opportunity for passengers to upgrade their tickets to a higher class of service on eligible flights operated by Delta and select partner airlines.
Eligibility and How to Earn Global Upgrade Certificates
Global Upgrade Certificates are available exclusively to Delta SkyMiles members who reach Diamond Medallion status. To achieve this tier, travelers must meet the following annual requirements:
- Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs): $28,000 (for the 2025 program year)
- Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) or Medallion Qualification Segments (MQSs): As of 2024, MQM and MQS are no longer required
Once a traveler qualifies for Diamond Medallion status, they are granted access to the Choice Benefits program. Global Upgrade Certificates are one of the available benefits, and members may select four (4) GUCs as on♠e of their Choice Benefits selections.
How Global Upgrade Certificates Work
- Eligible Fare Classes:
- Global Upgrade Certificates can be used to upgrade paid tickets from select fare classes:
- Main Cabin (Economy) to Delta One, First Class, or Premium Select
- Premium Select to Delta One (on applicable international routes)

- Global Upgrade Certificates can be used to upgrade paid tickets from select fare classes:
- Availability and Confirmations:
- Upgrade availability depends on seat inventory within the higher class.
- If you booked your flight or vacation package with me, I can let you know if there is upgrade availability on that flight before we book.
- If upgrade space is available at the time of booking, the upgrade may clear immediately.
- If upgrade space is not available, travelers are waitlisted and may receive the upgrade if space opens before departure.
- How to Apply Global Upgrade Certificates:
- Certificates must be applied by contacting Delta Reservations or through a dedicated Medallion phone line.
- Travelers can request upgrades for themselves and one companion traveling on the same reservation.
- Upgrades are processed based on availability, Medallion status, and booking class.
